The One Straw Society is a longstanding nonprofit organization on B.C.’s Sunshine Coast. Our mission is to provide education, advocacy and community connections, empowering people to access and engage in a local, resilient, and sustainable food system.
To us, this means:
- People grow and produce food locally;
- Food is accessible to consumers;
- The food system is environmentally responsible; and
- The Sunshine Coast has a robust food economy.
One Straw Society currently serves the Lower Sunshine Coast. We are the force behind many well-known activities and projects in our region, such as the Roberts Creek’s annual Seedy Saturday, the Fall Faire, the Ocean Vegetables Community Garden, the Edible Garden Tour, and the Green Banner Local Food Directory.

One Straw Society seeking part time position of Programs Coordinator
Since our founding in 2005 our membership has grown exponentially. We have achieved many “wins” for our community, and have many yet to realize. Our commitment to food sovereignty will remain the core mission as we now take the next step in an exciting season of change and growth.
The Society is seeking to fill the position of a part time Programs Coordinator to help us administrate and oversee various current programs and projects, dream large with our members, friends, and volunteers, support likeminded efforts in the community, and most of all, help us get results.
If your talents include self-motivation, drive, servant-leadership, the ability to inspire others, knowledge of food security issues, and management experience, please submit your résumé (maximum two pages) with cover letter to: email@example.com. Shortlisted candidates will receive a detailed job description and appointment for interview. ~40 hours/month part-time, flexible schedule; $18-$20/hr depending on experience. This role has great potential to grow in salary, number of hours, and position overall. The successful candidate would ideally work with this as a goal.
