The One Straw Society performs the following functions:
- Organizing Sunshine Coast residents helping to create change via One Straw's charter and mandate (these are posted on the website at www.onestraw.ca )
- Food Security / Food Action Network : working to secure our community food supply
- Take a farmer to lunch campaign : raising awareness of local farms
- Seedy Saturday : raising awareness of local sustainable food production
- Support for various forums regarding sustainable communities such as : Microfarmer forum, BioFuel discussion, 100 Mile Diet discussion
- Community newsletter publications : "Food For All" and "Oikos"

Donations and other money collected by The One Straw Society cover the costs of photocopying newsletters and information sheets, forum room rentals, and workshop materials.
