Community Gardens

Secehlt Community Garden

Behind the Community Services office on Inlet Avenue is a beautiful
oasis of display and vegetable gardens created and maintained by
many volunteers since ground was broken in 1992. There are vegetable
beds for people unable to garden at their own homes, compost bins,
worm beds, an orchard for the Food Bank, and many flowers, shrubs
and trees.

Members of the public are welcome to visit the garden, and volunteers
are welcome.

Sunshine Coast Food Bank

The Sunshine Coast Food Bank not only vividly demonstrates
the community in action, it also provides insight into the difficulties
experienced
by those living below the poverty level. The Sunshine Coast Food Bank
gathers, stores and distributes food to people in need in our community.

Last year the team of Food Bank volunteers gave 2,659 hours. Twice
a month the Food Bank gave food to an average of 330 families including
124 children. The Food Bank is sustained through the generous financial
support and food donations of the community and the efforts of many
supporters to organize food drives and other fund-raising events."
