Sunshine Coast Community Food Box
The Sunshine Coast Community Food Box is a partnership with Persephone Beer Farm & local farms, working together to grow your next sandwich, and local food security… all at once.
The 2021 season is sold out. Keep your eyes peeled for 2022!
A bunch of local farms with support from One Straw Society and Persephone Brewing are working on a food program that supports our you, farmers, and our community. It’s about sustainability, resiliency, and good, ethical, local food in your belly. Here’s how it works.
Building a Strong & Resilient Food System
Sourcing food from across multiple suppliers adds diversity, resilience, and strength to our food system. And since we all eat, that benefits us all.
get fresh fruits and veggies direct from local farms every week for four months. It’s a prepaid subscription, grocery service, but it’s so much more than just good food.
get a boost at the beginning of the season to scale up and grow more. Prepaying at the beginning of the season puts seed money into the hands of farmers when they need it most, to get your food growing in spring.
Your veggies are coming from down the road instead of across the globe. They’re likely picked that very morning!
One Straw Society, Vancouver Coastal Health, Sunshine Coast Community Services, and Sunshine Coast Association for Community Living are helping get healthy food into the kitchens of local families and seniors. Subsidies are available.
During the growing season, you get a bin of farm fresh produce every week for 16 weeks, from June to October.
What's in the bin?
It’s about the basics – making sure you can make a great sandwich or dinner with the most common fruits, veggies, and herbs. Expect lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, fresh potatoes, beets, peas, beas, garlic, onions… you get the idea.
You can choose to pick up Tuesday afternoons from your preferred location:
Gibsons | Persephone Brewing (1053 Stewart Rd)
Roberts Creek | One Tiny Farm (1041 Roberts Creek Rd)
Sechelt | Brickers’ Cider (6642 Norwest Bay Rd)
Choose home delivery From Langdale to Sechelt ($15/bin in Gibsons and $20/bin elsewhere)
"Foodie Sampler" Option
The Coast is full of amazing local food producers, so as a bonus, choose the Sunshine Coast Foodie Sampler! Every week, for four months, you’ll get a locally crafted creation… a loaf of sourdough, organic chocolates, tart jams and jellies, fresh applesauce, savoury pierogis, hot sauce, kombucha, fresh roasted coffee beans, flatbreads, divine doughnuts… it’s different every week!
One Straw Society, Vancouver Coastal Health, and Sunshine Coast Community Services Society are pleased to be able to help you access fresh, healthy, local food. Subsidies are available.
A typical CSA has one farm growing everything. The Community Food Bin is filled by a whole team of local farms and food producers, each providing just one or two things to your bin every week. Working together, farms can share in seed purchases, crop planning, farm labour, marketing, distribution, and support.
This is the second year, with twice as many partner farms and more than twice as many bins available. The team is growing! Working together we can build a stronger local food system that includes everyone.
